Are fourth favourites for relegation Aston Villa capable of surviving the drop?

Villa are currently 4th favourites to get relegated from the Barclays Premier League after QPR , Burnley and Leicester.  I’ve studied the Premier League fixtures for the bottom five teams and these are the following three games for each side:

Aston VillaQPRBurnleyLeicester SunderlandNewcastleArsenalSwanseaEvertonMan UnitedWest BromSpursLiverpoolChelseaHullSunderlandPalaceMan CityMan CityVilla

In my opinion Villa have the easiest next 3 games , out of the bottom 5 so hopefully we will push on and out of the relegation zone. Tim Sherwood has a positive approach and I believe he can keep us up and he insists relegation isn’t on his mind and he has said “it’s not an option”. I think if we stay up Kevin Macdonald and Tim Sherwood can develop the youth system and bring young players through which would help Villa’s current situation as we have limited funds. Also Sherwood has appointed many new members of staff to help improve the teams current situation , this includes a new first team coach and assistant manager so only time will tell if Sherwood is making an impact and taking Aston Villa football club in the right direction.

Predicted line up for Newcastle:

                Guzan

Cissokho , Clark , Okore , Hutton

Sinclair Delph , Sanchez , Gil

     Weimann , Benteke

I think the key to us staying up is more creativity from midfield , which has slightly  improved since January with Villa’s two new signings , Sinclair and Gil as they both like to get into the final third. If we can get Benteke motivated (which hopefully Sherwood will do) and give him service from the wings we will begin to pick up points , however Benteke has been extremely lazy in recent months and seems to do more moaning on the pitch than running , despite this I can understand his frustrations at times with the lack of service provided.

I think the defence has been performing to a reasonable standard most of the time , we just need to cut out individual mistakes which will result in less sloppy goals being conceded. If you look at the goals Villa concede it is often from simple pieces of play that can be cut out or from Villa playing negative football , so this can be solved with the right work on the training field. The players need to be taught to play with passion whilst being fearless because the team has a negative mindset at the moment (which is displayed in Villa’s recent league form which is 6 straight defeats) which needs to be changed immediately if we are going to start winning games , as players need to express themselves and take risks in the oppositions half.

In Sherwood’s first game Villa played more attacking and creative football (in comparison to Lambert’s standard) during the first half , however the equaliser from Stoke just before half time seemed to lower the teams confidence and it showed in the second half as it was a poor game and we created very little.

Also Captain Ron Vlaar will be suspended for the Newcastle game (after giving the last minute penalty away) which I’m personally not too bothered about as I’d start Okore and Clark anyway because they have formed a good partnership in recent months.

The next couple of weeks will be massive for Aston Villa as we have 2 big derby games and a massive chance to climb out of the bottom 3 and hopefully we will be on their way to Wembley if we beat West Brom in the FA Cup quarter final at Villa Park next week.
