Mauricio Pochettino’s adventure on the Chelsea bench ended after a year.
As communicated by the English club on its official channels, the Argentine coach and the Blues have reached an agreement for the termination of the contract: “We want to thank Mauricio for his work this year – reads the note – He will always be welcome at Stamford Bridge and we wish him every luck for his future“.
How Poch performed at Chelsea this year
Pochettino’s Stamford Bridge journey this season may have had its share of challenges, but he orchestrated a five-match winning streak to conclude the campaign, securing a sixth-place finish in the highly competitive Premier League.
Unless Manchester United triumphs in the FA Cup on Saturday, which would relegate them to the Conference League, Chelsea will find themselves plying their trade in the Europa League next season.
During his tenure, Pochettino steered the Blues to victory in 27 out of 51 matches, guiding them to the Carabao Cup final and the FA Cup semi-finals this season.
Chelsea’s management viewed the season as a failure
According to The Telegraph, his departure from the club was preceded by constructive discussions with sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, as well as co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali.
Fortunately, there appears to be no animosity between the club and the esteemed coach. As compensation for terminating his two-year contract after just one year, Pochettino is expected to receive a substantial sum.
In a composed statement, Pochettino expressed gratitude to the Chelsea ownership group and sporting directors, acknowledging the opportunity to etch his name in the footballing history of this illustrious club.
Looking ahead, he believes that Chelsea is now in a strong position to forge ahead and make strides in both the Premier League and European competitions in the years to come.
Who will be Chelsea’s next manager?
Reports indicate that Chelsea is wasting no time in launching their quest for a successor and has a firm desire to appoint a youthful and forward-thinking coach to lead the West London club into the future.
The name of the coach who will take over from Pochettino, who thanked the club for the opportunity he has been given, is not yet known, but in recent weeks there has been contact with Antonio Conte for what would be a sensational return, as well as that of Tuchel, another name that is circulating.
The London club’s goal, however, would be to bet on a young coach and there is also talk of De Zerbi, who has just been released from Brighton, and Enzo Maresca, who won promotion to the Premier League with Leicester.
